Only Watch 2011 which will be showcasing luxury watchmakers displaying their exclusive timepieces for auction, will include the Glashutte Senator timepiece amongst others, another one-off watch which is otherwise known for making these for the marines. This exclusive piece will be auctioned at the event, the proceeds of which will be used for the research and treatment of Duchene Muscular Dystrophy.
The Senator Chronometer is a rose gold chassis and buckled watch, with similar metallic handcrafted hands on the dial, and a patterned black rubber strap. The dial itself is matte black finished with white enameled roman numerical for hours and grills for minutes, displayed on the outer ring of the dial. The inner ring indicates the hours below which, is the power reserve indicator at the 12 ‘o’clock slot. The date is shown at the 3 ‘o’clock slot through a small window, and the 6 ‘o’clock is reserved for the seconds dial, which has a black on white contrast design. The overall width of the front chassis is 42mm in all.

The movement of the watch is a mechanical caliber 58-01 with straight-line lower escapement, monometallic balance with 18 screws, swan neck regular & self compensating flat balance springs. This carefully engineered movement is powered with the black cabochon crowned screw on the side of the dial. Also, the movement has microscopic components in which 58 jewels are used, hence the name of the caliber movement. The master-class timepiece will be presented to the winner of the bid at the auction, in a specially made black wooden box which further accentuates the exclusivity of the appeal. Also, the back of the timepiece mentions ‘1/1’ which indicates the one-off model. To look and compare some other horological geniuses at the Only Watch 2011 Auction, you could take a look at our coverage of the Celcius X VI II and Louis Vuitton. As a personal opinion, this one is a bit toned down, but never less a work of horological art.
