Patek Philippe Mecca World Timer watchPatek Philippe Mecca World Timer watch
Patek Philippe seems to be in a mood to create watches which will make time tracking a divine experience. We say that because of the launch of their latest horological masterpiece, the 5130P Mecca Edition World Timer which symbolizes the holiness of the city of Mecca and also shows the time in major cities around the world. With a prominent emerald green center dial design, this timepiece would be the ideal time tracker to wear on your trip to the holy city.
According to fables related to the Quran, Prophet Mohammed (S.A.W) once saw a man wearing gold and silk when he was nearing his last breathe. He went ahead and took those assets from him citing the reason that those who have these on their bodies while dying would not be given these when their soul reaches heaven. That is perhaps the logic for the absence of gold in this timepiece, which has a platinum chassis and even the strapping is devoid of gold or silk. The emerald green center of the dial we just pointed out has markings of platinum indicating the hours of the day. The black on white ring outside this circle displays the hours of the day in a 24-hour format, along with the position of the sun and moon. Going further towards the outer circles, one can notice the neat lettering of the names of prominent cities around the world, the time of which are displayed too. The inside of the watch contains the automatic caliber 240HU movement, which comprises of minute parts made of 33 precious jewels. This mechanism also supports the 48 hour power reserve of the watch.
Both the front and back of the timepiece are covered by the polished sapphire crystal coverings which are scratch resistant and are averse to water entering the insides. Till a depth of 30 meters of water, the watch can function perfectly well. Also, since the covering is transparent, it gives the wearer a chance to see the exposed skeleton of the working mechanism behind this timepiece. The black strap which fixes it to your wrist is made of crocodile skin which has been hand stitched.
There were 150 pieces of this watch made, all of which have already been sold since the launch. But this isn’t the only one from the watch maker which has wowed horological enthusiasts. Our coverage of the most expensive Patek Philippe watches tells you more regarding that front.
