Sir Richard Branson stands as an icon today, for being a largely successful entrepreneur, who is also known for his innovation and exotic list of assets such as the ‘Makepeace Island’. Now, Swiss watch brand Bulova Accutron immortalizes the British entrepreneur through the limited edition timepiece that was unveiled in New York recently. The watch is introduced after Sir Branson who has been appointed as the brand ambassador for this luxury range.
Joseph Bulova, who had founded the watch making company, had been an innovator so it was only very obvious that his enterprise associated itself with someone, who has similar attributes. The watch brings in a similar style of innovation with the titanium case body, black alligator leather strapping and a mechanism which allows the wearer to see GMT aligned times in 24 zones across the world. The outer most dial ring has 24 of the time zones across the world in the form of various cities, where the next ring contains the Arabic numeral hour indicators in a 24-hour format for different time zones. The inner most ring at the most prominent part of the dial shows the hours, minutes and seconds with aluminum hands on the marked black dial, date peeps out from a slot in the right hand corner. This dial is protected by the sapphire crystal covering on the front and back. The movement of the watch is the mechanical Controle Officiel Suisse Chronometres (COSC) which is considered one of the best in the horological world. The movement is played on the case back, and the power is generated from the wearer’s movement. The water resistance of the watch is till a depth of 100 meters.
Since we also mention that this will be a limited edition, only 500 pieces will ever be available for sale and after the production is complete, the moulds will be destroyed. All the pieces will be individually numbered, which will have engravings on the back, and will be shipped in limited edition casings. The price tag is $3,500 each and should be available from the 1st half of 2012.
Also, do take a look our piece on Space Artifacts, which has the Bulova Stopwatch amongst others. That is another timepiece which shows the brilliance of the Swiss watchmaker.
