Recently, we told you about Tesla Ecclestone’s extravagant $1.5 million crystal bathtub, that’s made out of monoblock rock crystal. But, just when we thought it to be the most unusual bathtub design, we spotted “Corcel N°1,” a full carbon fiber bathtub from the Austrian manufacturer Corcel, that would probably interest Michael Schumacher. Corcel rightly calls this all-carbon fiber bathtub, a heavenly body.

The development process of the artistic No.1 bathtub lasted 7 months, and the process involves high technical prowess with pure carbon as the starting material, which is then made into fine fibers with a diameter of 0.003 to 0.005 mm (3-5 micron) using a special process. Given its carbon fiber make, the bathtub is extremely durable together with low weight, electrical conductivity, resistance to chemicals and harsh temperatures. In short, the carbon fiber bathtub will last generations.

The No. 1 is the first top product from the Corcel, and the stunning design itself was selected from among 24 concepts submitted by artists and designers. The sleek bathtub is manufactured from a selected prepreg carbon fabric. After curing in an autoclave, it is finished with a surface coating found in luxury cars.

Each bathtub is handmade with precision and carries an individual authenticity certificate, with only a limited edition of 51 bathtubs produced worldwide, annually. The bathtub is 2,43m long, 1,23m wide und 0,64m tall, and has 330 litres capacity. 

The company is expecting to launch the first comprehensive line with all the necessary sanitary ware towards the end of 2011. No word on the price is yet available on the site.
