Aries Carat which is traditionally known for being pioneers of signal amplification methodology, have now introduced series of horn loading speakers called ‘Contendo Reference’, which will focus on producing distortion less sound and high signal efficiency for a superior musical experience. The company is known for its unique tube types and product designs, the Contendo Reference will do just more than create sound to add to a suitable ambience.
Horn loading as technology, is one of the high efficiency options of creating speakers when compared to what is available in the market today. Its main concentration is to minimize power compression distortion and displacements arising from the driver’s cone within the speakers, which gives ‘up-close’ feel due to clarity and accuracy. The Contendo Reference set focuses on this technology by putting in a 4-inch compression Titanium midrange into a 350Hz horn, which brings to your ears, anything which falls between the ranges of 700-3000 Hz frequency. The solid external wooden body which has the natural design patterns also plays a pivotal role in ensuring that there are edge reflections. The accompanying 400W amplifier, which too has been built in house, uses copper foil wiring and high quality polystyrene and Teflon capsitors, which results in producing sound well over 50KHz frequency range. The final packaging that the speaker set brings is something which is aesthetically appealing rather than being just another object in your room. One speaker is in the form of the dark red floor vertical standing body and the other is a black round conical floor standing speaker with a red centre. For someone with a flair for sporty looks, this set complements the taste perfectly well.
In case you would want to look at some other options which use horn loading technology, then a good reference point would be the Blumenhofer Clara Luna speaker set, and saxophone-like Arcadian Pnoe horn speakers. Only techies and audiophiles with deep understanding might differentiate the technicalities, but on the aesthetics front, we still rest with the Contendo Reference.
