An emerald-and-diamond tiara that belonged to the wife of French Emperor Napoleon III sold for $12.76 million

The most expensive tiara ever sold
An anonymous buyer purchased the historic tiara at a Sotheby's auction in May 2011.
The diamond-and-emerald confection was commissioned by German prince Guido Henckel von Donnersmarck for his second wife Katharina around 1900, and is believed to have belonged to Eugenie, wife of French Emperor Napoleon III.
