Watchmakers for the luxury range of timepieces have been known for using multiple elements of genius and rarity, such as precious metals and jewelry, apart from outstanding horological engineering. One such brand is Urwerk, who showed some examples in the UR 103 Phoenix watch for Only Watch 2011, and also the UR-110 Torpedo. Now joining the group is the UR-1001, which has been constructed out of a single block of metal, and the complications within the watch enable it to track time from seconds to a full millennia, apart from having indicators for servicing every 3 years.
A first look and it wouldn’t be wrong to describe this watch as something out of the latest sci-fi movie. The dial especially displays most of the retrogrades and trademark satellites which Urwerk is known for. Beginning with the bottom corner, the minutes are displayed in white pointed out by the same hand which also displays the minutes, but on a separate round dial. The day and night is also indicated on a small dial on the left, after which comes the date and month indicator, which borrows the similar robust design of the hour-cum-minute hand. Looking a bit deeper, one can also find the tiny seconds indicator. Moving on, there is the power reserve indicator, which has an independent and lesser complicated dial. Turning the timepiece over at the back, one can see the millennium indicator on the left, and the ‘oil-change’ or servicing time indicator, which tells you to service the timepiece every 3 to 5 years. And in case, you would like to know which century of the millennia it is, there is a dial for that too (We sympathize if you are going around in circles over the design)!

The main body is made from a special alloy called Titanium Aluminum Nitride coated on a stainless steel base, and the internal mechanisms contain 51 jewels including precious stones, and DLC treated main-plate and base plate, which speaks of the novelty value of the watch. Even the winding screw crown at the top has been finely machine crafted for the perfect feel on the timepiece. The other news from the company says that there will only be 8 of these complications available for sale, with each being marked individually, but the price of this genius hasn’t yet been indicated. For every horological geek, and futuristic watch lover, this is one piece you would love to get your hands on.
